Are you willing to do what it takes to be a master? Are you sure you want to?
THE LEVEL UP LETTER
Hi All!
It’s here! Your weekly Level Up Letter.
This week is all about Mastery.
We hope you enjoy and hope you find it interesting enough to share.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
HALF DOME vs EL CAPITAN
If you’ve seen Free Solo you’ve seen a little bit of the work it takes to become a ‘master’ of your craft. We love this Ted Talk Alex gave discussing the difference between his training for free soloing Half Dome and the level of preparation it took for him to solo El Capitan.
STEPH CURRY
Steph Curry Practice Shots: Over 2,500,000 shots in his lifetime. In his career, he’s only taken 15,000 during live games. He’s made 3,000 3 point shots and is considered to be the G.O.A.T. |
That’s 0.001%
How much work are you willing to do in private to be a master in public?
DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE MASTER?
Let’s face it. Most of us won’t be Alex Honnald or the next Steph Curry. You won’t be a chess grandmaster, you won’t be the next T-Swift or the leader of a nation. To be the top 1% of the 1% isn’t just 10,000 hours. It’s ALL of your hours. It’s a lifetime.
That being said, you can get to the top 10% in a given skill relatively easily.
Looking at real estate, getting to 10 units would put you in the top 10% of residential real estate owners. In podcasts, getting 478+ downloads in the first week puts you in the top 10%. Don’t get us wrong. It takes a lot of work but you can out work “most” people.
This image does a great job illustrating the effort it takes.

Better yet, you can become top 10% across a few skill sets and be the 1% of the 1% that has that unique blend.
Tomas Pueyo wrote a great article on “How to Become the Best in the World at Something” that goes into far more detail if you’re interested on reading more.
