  • Being brutally honest with yourself

  • Good to Great

We’d appreciate it if you forwarded it along to anyone else you think would enjoy it or get some benefit from it. Have a great week!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

WHO’S IN YOUR CORNER

The Virtuous Cycle

⁣⁣We saved this post from Kevin Dahlstrom awhile back because it reminds us of how fortunate we are to have incredible people in our corner. The older we get, the more we travel, the more people we work with we’re growing more and more convinced that having at least one person in your life, encouraging you to do the thing you're afraid of or letting you know that YES, YOU CAN do it, is the single biggest differentiator between those that push towards their dreams and those that settle for what's in front of them.

It works in a virtuous cycle as well. When you go out an achieve, you're in the position to help others. It could be as simple as an introduction, helping to guide their decision making, putting money behind their idea but most importantly is just letting them know that you believe in them.

This is something that's top of mind for us a lot lately, and we hope you take this idea and run with it.

Who are you grateful to have in your corner?

Who's corner needs you in it?

BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

If you ever find yourself "wishing" for a life you don't yet have, ask yourself these three questions from Dr. Julie Gurner

1. What am I really willing to sacrifice?
2. What am I willing to learn?
3. How much of my time am I willing to commit?

If you half-ass the answers, you’ll get half-assed results but if you can be TRULY honest with yourself on these 3 things, you’ll be able to determine a lot about who you are and what you really want out of life.

GOOD TO GREAT

While on the theme of not being afraid to give up the good to go for the great we'd be remiss not to mention Jim Collins's book Good To Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don't

It's an excellent deep dive into the universal distinguishing characteristics that cause a company to go from good to great.

Collins and his research team identified a set of elite companies that made the leap to great results and sustained those results for at least fifteen years. How great? After the leap, the good-to-great companies generated cumulative stock returns that beat the general stock market by an average of seven times in fifteen years, better than twice the results delivered by a composite index of the world's greatest companies, including Coca-Cola, Intel, General Electric, and Merck.
