The Level Up Letter - Vol. 38 - The Two Most Powerful Words

How Language Effects Your Success

THE LEVEL UP LETTER

Hi All!
Here is your weekly Level Up Letter. This week we’re talking about the language we use and how it affects our identity. We hope you enjoy and hope you’re telling yourself “I AM AWESOME” each and every day.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

I AM…..

⁣These two little words, in our opinion, are the two most powerful words in the English language. They control what you’re capable of doing. They’re the backbone of the identity you’ve created for yourself but these two little words can cut both directions. They are not just components of sentences; they are declarations of identity and intent.

The Psychology of Affirmation

Psychologically, "I AM" statements reinforce our self-concept. They can bolster our confidence, focus our intentions, and pave the way for achievements. On the flip side, they can hold us back from going after our goals, taking risks, or believing in ourselves. The power lies in their affirmation of our identity, which commands both internal belief and external perception.

When you say "I AM," you are not just stating a fact; you are creating it. These words are foundational to how we see ourselves and, subsequently, how the world perceives us.

NEGATIVE x POSITIVE

From EMDR Counseling Associates

DEFAULT POSITIVE

If you’re trying to succeed you’re going to go through a lot of crap. Defaulting to the positive can help you get through the hard times but it can take some practice. When you catch yourself using negative I AM statements here are a few things to remember….

  • Catch and Reframe - Now that you know how powerful these statements can be, you can start to reset. When you catch yourself using a negative statement, stop, breath, and rephrase it in the positive version.

  • Would You Say That To x? - Sometimes we say things to ourselves that we would never in a million years say to another person. So when you catch yourself ask, would I say this to…..my partner? my kids? my friend? - Then why say it to yourself?

  • Start the Day With Positive I AM Statements - We dare you to stand in front of the mirror every morning this week, raise your hands and say “I’M AWESOME!!!!” - Have fun with it and see how you feel afterward.

  • The Five Minute Rule - We all have moments where things don’t go our way or we don’t feel our best. We are human after all. We don’t want to let the negative overtake us for too long. Set a timer and give yourself five minutes to be sad, pissed, upset etc. and then reset. Get it out of your system and move on.
