The Level Up Letter - Vol. 40 - You're Not A Fit For Everyone
And that's ok. Not everyone should want to work with you
THE LEVEL UP LETTER
Hi All!
Here is your weekly Level Up Letter. This week we’re talking about team dynamics and some examples of how to get just the people that truly believe in what you’re doing to be working with you. We hope you enjoy!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

YOU ARE A TEAM, NOT A FAMILY.
We figured this was best left to the original author Marc Randolph (co-founder of Netflix) Check out his article here.
MEN WANTED FOR HAZARDOUS JOURNEY

“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.”
Is that a job you’d sign up for? Yeah, me either.
BUT This might be the most famous advertisement for a job ever to exist. Rumor has it that this is how Ernest Shakleton recruited sailors on his expedition to the South Pole.
With an expedition that intense, and that dangerous, you only want people on your ship that are excited for the hard parts. It’s worth it to them. It means something for them to be there. They’ll happily pay the cost to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
There’s some doubt that Ernest Shakelton actually wrote this ad but, it proves the point we’re going for. You only want people on your team that want to be there.
A LESSON FROM MR. BEAST
If you haven’t seen it yet, a 36 page employee document from Mr. Beast just got leaked.
It’s a Masterclass in communicating expectations to employees. Every page tells you what success looks like, what’s important to him, how to be good at your job and what not to waste your time on. He tells you the things that drive him crazy.
The best part about it, in our opinion, is that he’s trying to deter you from working there. If this job doesn’t sound amazing to you, if you’re the type of person that can’t do this, then please don’t work here.
We highly suggest checking it out and asking yourself this question:
If you’re a business owner or a manager, does your team know these things?
If you’re an employee, did your company or manager set expectations with you?
One more thing from the doc (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)
