Using the Inversion Process
THE LEVEL UP LETTER
Hi All!
Here is your weekly Level Up Letter. We’re going to dive into the Inversion Process today. (Sorry if you thought we’d be getting down with some Missy Elliott) BUT hopefully you’ll gain some insight on how to use this process to propel you forward. We hope you enjoy!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

FROM CHARLIE MUNGER
Check out this great explanation of the Inversion Process…
Figuring out all the things that would destroy you, in whatever you’re doing, and then working to prevent them is a great way to build success.
If you’re leading a company ask yourself, What would a terrible manager do?
For your finances, what would absolutely ruin me?
For your health, what behaviors would land me in the hospital at an early age?
The list goes on and on in any area.
INVERTING FOR OURSELVES
We asked chatGPT… “If you were satan and your goal was to prevent someone from living their purpose, what tactics would you use?” Here’s what it came up with….
1. Distraction and Overwhelm
I would constantly bombard them with distractions that seem urgent but are not important—such as social media, trivial tasks, or other people's crises. I'd create an endless to-do list to keep them busy and stressed, never quite finding the time or energy to focus on what truly matters.
2. Self-Doubt and Limiting Beliefs
Planting seeds of doubt and reinforcing their negative self-talk would be crucial. I’d amplify their fear of failure, criticism, or rejection so they avoid taking risks. I’d magnify their flaws and past mistakes, creating a narrative that they aren’t capable or worthy of success.
3. Comparison and Envy
I’d push them to compare themselves to others, focusing on what they lack or haven't achieved yet. Constant comparisons would erode their self-esteem and divert their attention away from their unique strengths and journey.
4. Perfectionism and Procrastination
I’d convince them that if something isn’t perfect, it’s not worth doing at all. This would lead to endless revisions, never finishing projects, or not starting them due to the fear that they won’t be flawless.
5. Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)
I’d drive them to say "yes" to everything out of fear of missing out on opportunities, experiences, or connections. This would leave them overcommitted and stretched too thin, ultimately diluting their focus and draining their energy.
6. Isolation and Disconnection
I’d lead them to believe they are alone in their struggles, isolating them from people who could offer support, perspective, and encouragement. I’d push them to withdraw and not ask for help, keeping them feeling misunderstood and unsupported.
7. Pursuit of Instant Gratification
I would tempt them with short-term pleasures and comforts that provide immediate but fleeting satisfaction, distracting them from their long-term vision and purpose. Over time, their willpower and drive would erode as they seek comfort over progress.
8. Victim Mentality
Encouraging them to adopt a victim mindset would lead them to blame external circumstances or other people for their struggles. This would keep them feeling powerless and resentful instead of empowered to make changes.
9. Toxic Relationships
I’d surround them with people who drain their energy, discourage their dreams, or hold them back out of their own insecurities. These relationships would create unnecessary conflict, doubt, and emotional exhaustion.
10. Overcomplication and Analysis Paralysis
I’d present so many options, ideas, and possible paths that they become paralyzed by overthinking. They’d be unable to make decisions confidently, constantly second-guessing themselves and their choices.
DEFENSE IS THE BEST OFFENSE
To defend against these tactics and stay aligned with one’s purpose, we need a combination of self-awareness, proactive strategies, and positive habits. Here are some suggestions to defend against the things preventing you from living your purpose.
1. Prioritize and Eliminate Distractions
Daily Planning & Prioritization: Begin each day with a clear plan. Identify the top three priorities that are aligned with your purpose and focus on completing them first.
Time Blocking & Digital Detox: Allocate specific times for focused work and times for breaks. Create boundaries with digital devices to minimize distractions.
2. Combat Self-Doubt with Affirmation and Action
Affirmations and Journaling: Start your day with affirmations that counter self-doubt. Write down positive beliefs about your abilities and reinforce them daily.
Celebrate Small Wins: Track progress and celebrate small victories to reinforce a sense of accomplishment. Each small step forward builds confidence.
3. Stay in Your Lane and Avoid Comparison
Mind Your Own Journey: Regularly reflect on your growth and accomplishments. Compare your progress to your past self, not others.
Curate Your Environment: Be selective about what you consume on social media and whom you spend time with. Focus on inspiring content and people who uplift you.
4. Embrace Imperfection and Start Taking Action
Progress Over Perfection: Remind yourself that done is better than perfect. Set deadlines to force progress and accept that imperfection is part of the journey.
Practice Imperfection: Deliberately engage in activities where you give yourself permission to be imperfect. This builds resilience and reduces fear of failure.
5. Stay True to Your Goals and Avoid Overcommitting
Know Your Core Values: Write down your core values and revisit them frequently. Before saying yes to new commitments, ask yourself if they align with your values and purpose.
Establish Clear Boundaries: Learn to say no with confidence and without guilt. Recognize that saying no to distractions is saying yes to your purpose.
6. Build a Support System and Stay Connected
Seek Mentorship and Community: Connect with people who share similar values or are on similar journeys. This keeps you accountable and inspired.
Practice Vulnerability: Open up to trusted friends or mentors about your struggles. Accepting help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
7. Delay Gratification and Focus on Long-Term Rewards
Visualize Your Future Self: Regularly envision the future you’re working towards. Create a vision board or write a letter to your future self.
Build Discipline with Daily Routines: Incorporate small daily habits that align with your goals. These routines create a sense of momentum and purpose.
8. Take Ownership and Cultivate an Empowered Mindset
Practice Radical Responsibility: Own your choices, actions, and emotions. Shift from “Why is this happening to me?” to “What can I do about this?”
Reframe Setbacks: Look at setbacks as learning opportunities. Embrace the idea that challenges are not roadblocks but stepping stones.
9. Surround Yourself with the Right People
Audit Your Circle: Evaluate the energy and influence of the people around you. Distance yourself from toxic relationships that drain you or create doubt.
Find Like-Minded Individuals: Seek people who inspire and encourage growth. Spend more time with those who challenge you to be better.
10. Simplify and Focus on One Thing at a Time
Adopt a Minimalist Approach: Simplify your goals and tasks. Focus on one significant objective at a time rather than juggling multiple things.
Limit Decision Fatigue: Reduce the number of decisions you make by pre-planning certain aspects of your life (e.g., meals, workouts). Free up mental energy for more critical decisions.
